Purple Moon (HM26)

Purple Moon
Half Moon 26
Kat puts her swords back in their sheaths and Jace runs his hand through his hair. Adalia and Cade join them, with Cade carrying Jace's spear.
"I admit I lost," Jace says taking his spear from Cade.
"You might have won if your partner was with you," Kat replies, "Those that can't think straight always lose against me."
Jace looks Kat over, "Maia said almost the same thing, only she added if you were serious no one could beat you."
Adalia sighs, "Maia has always been good at reading people, and she's never wrong."
Jace shrugs and turns to go, "Next time, I won't lose."
After he leaves, Cade shakes his head, "Idiot."
Kat sighs and rubs her temples. Adalia looks at her, concerned, "Are you okay."
Kat waves her off, "I'm fine. I just have a headache."
Cade looks doubtful, "You've been getting more of those. They're getting worse aren't they."
Kat glares at him, "I said I'm fine."
Cade puts up his hands in surrender, "Alright, I get it. Earlier this morning Silias said that the council decided that finding the Queen is most important. All teams of hunters are looking for her or any information about her"
"Cade! Silias said not to tell her," Adalia protests.
"It's ok, Adalia. I'm glad Cade told me," Kat sighs before sitting down.
Cade glances at Adalia before saying, "What do you think."
"I think that this is what the Queen wants. Why else would she suddenly come out of hiding and create big disturbances," Kat responds.
    "But...." Cade prompts.
"But the council has ordered it, and we can't go against them," She adds.
Adalia sighs, "Then what are you going to do?"
Kat stares at the ceiling, "I'll do what I've been ordered to do, rest."
Cade raises an eyebrow, "You're really going to lay in bed all day."
Kat glares at him, "I didn't say that. We don't have any clues as to where to begin looking for this Queen. So since I can't go out into the field, I will do some research here."
    Cade chuckles, "Of course."
"Jace has probably already challenged Cade to a race, then fought me to hinder us. And even though I dislike him, we will indulge him and win."
    Adalia rolls her eyes, "Why?"
Cade replies, "Because if we don't, he won't stop taunting us and then we would get into a serious fight. But if we win, it will shut him up, and he'll stop bugging us while he picks up the pieces of his pride."

Purple Moon
Half Moon 25
Jace slightly moves his spear and runs at Kat. Kat waits until he's to close to change directions before jumping over him. Jace spins his spear aiming for her swords. Her swords create an X with the spear in the middle. Kat spins, trying to twist the spear out him grasp but he turns the spear, and the three weapons come free still in their owner's hands.
Kat lands and says, "At least your not to dumb."
Jace chuckles, "And you're quick on your feet."
Kat switches the position of her swords and Jace gets into a defensive pose. They each wait for the other to make the first move. Minutes pass then suddenly Kat swings one of her swords at high speed.
Jace and Adalia look at her confused while Cade just shakes his head. The ground starts rumbling and cracking, causing a line to appear like Kat had run her sword through the ground. The cracking heads towards Jace getting faster the further it travels.
He jumps out of the way, and the cracking continues right up until it hits the wall. Once it's done, Kat explains, "What you just saw was a mixture of speed and air. Basically, I swing my swords at high speeds, turning the air into a weapon. I don't use it much in real battles, but it works here in here."
Cade silently chuckles aware of lies in the half-truth. Jace just raises an eyebrow, "Interesting.  Maybe I misjudged you."
    Kat smiles, "Maybe."
He attacks again, and Kat jumps away before swinging a sword again. More cracks show up in the floor, and Jace dodges them. This happens over again with more cracks covering the floor. Then while he gets away from the cracks, Kat gets behind him. She cuts his arm, and on reflex, his hold loosens for a moment. At that moment, Kat pulls his spear from his grasp and tosses it away from her.
Jace stares at her dumbstruck and Cade burst out laughing.
Adalia stares at him, "What is wrong with you."
Cade recovers from his laughter, "Nothing, I was thinking that she used the same trick on me."
    "Trick?"
"That thing with the cracks isn't what she says it is at all. Its completely harmless, and it only works on cement, which is why she can only do it in the training rooms."
"Then how does she cause them?"
Cade shrugs, "She never told me. But I do know that what she does is trick her opponent into running around the room and when their distracted, she causes them to loosen their hold by reflex. And in that slight moment, before training kicks in and they tighten it, she pulls the weapon out of their grasp."
Adalia smiles at Kat, "That is just like her."

Purple Moon
Half Moon 24
Kat stands across from Jace, lightly holding her swords. She studies Jace figuring out how the fight would go. He smiles as if he knows what she's thinking.
"So how are we going to do this?" He asks.
"How about the first one to be disarmed wins. If you don't mind me having two swords."
Cade chuckles and Adalia looks at him, confused, "why are you laughing?"
Cade shakes his head, "She's good. She's baiting him into accepting her challenge, but if he accepts he's pretty much lost."
    "How do you know?"
"She did the same thing to me. When we were first assigned as partners. I didn't want to accept her as my partner."
Adalia nods, "What did she do."
Cade pictures that day as he explains to Adalia. He resented her, and Kat knew it. Instead of arguing with him like what everyone else did, she challenged him to a battle.
Cade could clearly see the scene. Him when he was younger glaring at Kat for blocking his path. She has her arms folded, and her eyes were steady.
"If you win, I'll request for a new partner. I've done it before so it no big deal, but if I win you have to stay until we at least go on a couple missions."
Young Cade stares at her, doubtful, "Why?"
"This way, we can measure each other's strength and discover weaknesses."
"Alright be what kind of battle will it be?"
The memory vanishes and Cade continues talking, "She used the same line on me almost word for word. I assumed she was up to something, but I couldn't see what it was, and I assumed that since I used a crossbow, I would have an advantage."
    "So, she won."
He recalls kneeling in a gym similar to this one, exhausted. His crossbow was across the room and in the middle of the post-battle mess was Kat, both swords still in her hands.
"She didn't just beat me, she gained my respect in that fight. I was a fair shot back then, but I didn't stand a chance not at winning that battle."
"Kat does excel in fighting," Adalia agrees.
"The one thing I know for sure is that she never lets go of her weapon unless she wants to. On all the missions we've been on she's never been disarmed," Cade says looking at Jace, "So the only question is, is he smart enough to say no."
Jace chuckles, "Fine by me, I'll win even if you have two swords."
    Kat smiles, "Then let's begin."

Purple Moon (HM23)

Purple Moon
Half Moon 23
Darkness, it is the first thing she is aware of. Then comes the feeling of water circulating around her and her long hair brushing against her skin. She has long since grown used to this, but there is still a part of her that screams for release.
A sound splits the silence interrupting her mussing. The noise is muffled, but it still causes her some irritation. Slowly she opens her eyes and stares beyond the glass of her container.
A woman with short brown hair stares back, horrified. The woman is still, but it is obvious she had been struggling with the men restraining her. After a moment of eye contact, the woman screams and begins struggling again. They drag her off, and the one in the tank closes her eyes.
Kat opens her eyes to a pounding head. She stumbles out of bed and takes a couple pills. Staring at her sink, she waits for the medicine to kick in. She recalls the dream she just had confused by who the girl in the water was. Her head goes from a throb to a dull ache, and she sighs, putting the dream at the back of her mind. She gets dressed and heads downstairs. She finds Adalia and Cade in the cafeteria.
"You're finally up. I know the medic said to rest, but I didn't think you would take it seriously," Cade comments.
Kat sits down and kicks him, "What are you doing here, Adalia?"
Adalia shrugs, "Tiberius and Hidel are getting a check-up. How is your wound doing?"
"It's healing but not as quick as I would like it to," Kat responds.
Adalia rolls her eyes, "Kat, you need to learn not everything is about work."
"And yet work just appears in front of her," Cade points outs.
Jace walks up, "Well, what do we have here."
Kat looks up at him, "what do you want, Jace."
His eyes sparkle, "nothing I was just wondering how it feels to be doing nothing."
"Is that a challenge," Cade asks, "You know you're not going to win."
"What makes you so sure," Jace replies.
Cade looks at Kat measuring her mood, "Survival instinct."
Kat glares at Cade before returning her gaze to Jace, "Even wounded, I would still win."
Jace smiles, "I have some extra time why don't we test that theory."
    Kat stands up, "Gladly."
They walk to a training room Cade, and Adalia stand off to one side while the other two face each other.
"Are you sure Kat can win?" Adalia asks.
Cade nods, "I wouldn't be her partner if she couldn't."
Adalia looks at Kat, "Why are you so confident?"
"She hasn't fought anyone since she got the wound. That's two days worth of frustration and unused energy. So don't worry."
