Purple Moon(CM5)

Crescent Moon 5
They arrive at the northern town just before sunset. The first thing that Kat notices is that no one is in the streets. All the doors and windows are locked and barred — not a single hint of movement.
"They said this place was populated, didn't they?" Cade asks his voice barely above a whisper and only half-joking.
Kat gets off the bike, her left-hand reaching for one of the swords on her back. Cade, knowing that this is serious, looks for any movement.
"The Alteration is only supposed to be a level A. It shouldn't be able to clear the town this fast." Kat murmurs
Cade catches a glimpse of a fleeting shadow in a window. "There," He says and starts walking for the house.
Kat follows behind him, trusting his sharp eyes. Cade walks right up to the door and knocks.
    No one answers.
Kat looks up at the now orange sky and pulls out her swords "Leave it, Cade. Even if there are people in the house they won't answer, not this close to nightfall."
Cade backs away from the door and also looks at the sky "So it hunts at night. I'll go up to the roofs anything else I should know."
"It hates fire," Kat replies and walks to the middle of the road.
Cade scales the building. He pulls out his crossbow and stares into the wilderness as the sun slowly sets over the horizon. Then something moves in the dark shadows.
    "East," Cade whispers.
Kat understands and positions herself to the East. Kat is sure that the Alteration can see her and is waiting for the perfect moment to strike just like she is waiting for it to reveal itself.
Time ticks by slowly in the silence. Kat never lets her guard down, and neither does Cade. Just as he is about to shot into the dark to bring the creature out it slowly slinks out the darkness and into the light of the torches.
It is obvious that it was once human and that it once walked on two legs, but now it walks on its knuckles and toes. Its back is hunched, and the bones are easily visible. Its eyes look like they belong to a snake but are red. Razor-sharp teeth peak out of its mouth, and dried blood cover its lips and chin standing out against the deathly pale skin. It studies Kat for a minute then, with surprising speed, it jumps for her throat.
She waits until it is in mid-air then swings her sword cutting it across the ribs and throwing it away from her. It growls at her and the flesh seals back together.
"I'm guessing its an A2 or 3," She says as it slowly walks towards her.
"Do we have any orders to take it back?" Cade replies.
"No. Feel free to light it."
Four rapid shots ring through the air. Three arrows hit the Alteration. One in the forehead, one in the heart and one in the stomach. The force of the arrows hitting it cause it to stumble backward and it looks down at the arrows with shock. Then before it can regain its composer, a torch slides off of the house and sets the Alteration on fire. It screams a high pitched sound of agony as its body goes up in flames.
Kat turns away and looks at Cade, who is walking toward her, "We'll wait until it stops burning before we leave."
"Wanting to make sure none of the houses catch on fire are we," Cade teases back to his joking self.
"No, just wanting to make sure you remember how to do your job after not doing it for so long."

"So what is our job," Cade asks.
Kat doesn't answer and keeps walking towards the door. Cade knows she won't talk because she is mad.
"Don't be like that. You know that I hate going to visit the tech people."
Kat turns on him just before they reach the doors. Anger making her eyes sparkle like steel. "You should care a little more. Not all of us can be as irresponsible as you."
Cade drops his relaxed face, and his tone is not as carefree, "I know that. You're in a mad mood did the Council chew you up again."
"No, and the only reason they lecture me is because of your actions."
    "Then what is it?"
Kat walks out into the City before she replies, "We're going after a blood Alteration."
Cade nods, knowing that blood Alterations always made her irritable and the fact that she didn't know why made it worse. "Alright then let's this over with you can tell me the details on the way."
Kat nods and they walk to the main gate that lead to the world destroyed by war and Alterations.
"Will we need bikes," Cade asks.
Kat nods, "The northern settlement is a ways from here."
Cade walks over to their motorcycles. Sleek and streamline they sit waiting for someone to turn them on. They are black and designed so that when you sat properly on it, you became part of the aerodynamics. Cade touches the console in between the handlebars and the bike purres to life. A dim blue glow comes from slits on the side of the body where the engine sits.
"My fuel rods are low," Cade says looking at the blue light.
Kat turns her bike on and straddles it, "Then you should have changed them when I told you too. You better hope that you have enough power to get you there and back again because your not riding with me."
"You would just leave me there," Cade says with a slight whimper.
Kat puts on a pair of clear glasses and leans forward to grab the handlebars, "You shouldn't have to ask that. With the mood I'm in, I would just take you to the middle of the desert and let you find your own way home."
Cade didn't doubt it. She probably wouldn't even send help until a couple days later. He thinks while getting on his own bike.
Kat hits a button on the side of her glasses and words scroll across them while they identify key things around them. Once they settle, she revs her engine and takes off not checking to see if Cade is following.

I'm sorry about the weird gasps and sudden change of font size. Maybe its because I'm still getting use to blogger but it doesn't look like that in draft form and I don't know how to change it. I will try to find out how to fix it and if any of you know how please tell me because its starting to bug me.

Kat doesn't even pause, "Move your blocking the door to my room."
Cade grins and steps out of the way, "We will leave tomorrow as soon and we get information from the technicians."
Kat opens her door, "Then I hope that you will be on time for once."
"We'll see," Cade chuckles knowing he won't and walks away.
Kat walks into the sparsely furnished room. Inside there is a bed up against a glass wall that over looks the City, a small kitchen area that is barely used, and a mirror next to a dresser. There a small hall that leads to the bathroom and empty closets.
She walks over to the glass wall and throws her cloak on to the bed. Watching the gray colored Buildings with there fake blue lights and the people that scurry around between them. She sighs and wishes she could be just as ignorant as the people bellow her about the outside world.
She turns from the glass and walks over to the dresser. She takes off the black shirt stained with blood and torn from the battle and throws it into the laundry basket. Standing in front of the mirror she checks to make sure none of the wounds she received are to serious. Her eye catches the purple crescent moon on her right shoulder blade that matches her eyes. It has been there as long as she can remember and the color never seems to fade. She traces the shape with her fingers and they catch the scar that runs through the moon. A sense of relief runs through her like it does every time she sees the scar. She ignores the feeling and drops her hand. Satisfied that none of her wounds were in need of medical attention Kat walks down the hall to wash off the dried blood.
***
Kat walks toward the technical center. She didn't expect Cade to show up but that didn't make her any less mad. A man greets her at the door to the center.
"Glad you could come. I'm assuming that Mr. Darshan won't be joining us again."
    "I assume the same thing."
The man sighs, "Very well I would rather have you here instead of him anyway."
He leads her around people and machinery to an empty room that only had a computer, several chairs and projection screen. He boots up the computer and hit several keys then suddenly there is a map on the projection screen with a red dot on it.
"There was an incident in a small settlement to the north of here. We believe it to be a Blood Alteration that can't control it's power. It is probably a level A but it cause quite a stir when it ripped the throats out of several towns people."
"How many were killed and how did they get rid of it."
"About nine people in five minutes. They chased it off with fire but they think it will be back and with a vengeance."
Kat stares at the map, "Scared of fire and obsessed with blood."
She nods her thanks and walks out to find Cade. Instead she finds a woman dressed in a silky flowing gown with a high slit and a plunging neckline. A knife is sheathed on her visible thigh and two mean looking dogs stand on either side of her. Adalia and her dogs. They growl at Kat and Adalia hushes them.
"I don't know why they do that your the only person they growl at."
    "Animals have never liked me."
"But I thought I had trained them better than that but no matter are you off on another job."
Kat nods, "A blood obsessed Alteration."
"Gory bastards those things are. Ruined a good dress fighting one of them. Well good luck." Adalia wishes walking off.
Cade, meanwhile, is sitting with the other male Hunters joking about their recent jobs and other such stuff. When the others fall silent Cade knows its Kat whose approached them. He spins around with the smile still on his face.
    "Time to go Cade."
Cade says his goodbyes and promises that he will be back before he follows Kat.

Purple Moon
 Crescent Moon 2
Kat and Cade walk into a huge gray building that is in the middle of the busy City. Inside a man is waiting for them. He has a muscular build and scars that cover his body, but the most noticeable scar is the one that cuts across his left eye.
"Kat, Cade." He says with a small bow to each of them, "Welcome back the Council has been waiting."
Kat bows deeply, "I'm sorry, Silias, Cade was playing around."
Silias looks at Cade "That seems to be the routine. Kat, go report to the council. Cade...I'm going to have a little chat with you."
Kat bows again then moves past Silias, ignoring Cade's pitiful mews and heads towards a door with a sun on it. Through the door is a long hallway that leads to another door with a sun. Kat takes a deep breath before walking down the long hallway and opening the door to a big round chamber. Surrounding her is a ten-foot tall wall, and sitting above it are thirteen people who all look the same. They wear long golden robes that have red accents. A headdress covers their eyes and falls across their shoulders down to their chests.
Kat kneels and bows her head. She though she can only see a part of it she knows from past visits that the tiled sun takes up most of the floor., but she knows from "Cade Darshan and I, Kat Adair, have returned Council of the Sun."
"We have been waiting for your report, Ms. Adair," A man's voice replies.
Kat doesn't look up as she continues, "We traveled to one of the old towns that were abandoned after the War. There we found a Bone Alteration of a D2 caliber. We fought, and killed it. No one was found to be living there, and Cade Darshan didn't find any other Alterations."
"Were you the one to kill it?" A woman asks.
    "Yes."
"That is all you may go," A different man dismisses.
Kat stands, bows then backs out of a room. Once the doors close in front of her, she stands up straight and walks back down the hall. Cade has gone, but it doesn't faze Kat. She had been asked to speak to some people in training and Cade would only hider her.
Kat takes the elevator to the fifth floor. Ignoring the stares of the trainees, she slips into a black classroom. People sit in desks facing a woman who lectures with a projector.
"...There are five total A through F, and each letter has three subcategories. Even if you are not going into the field, it is important to know this so that you can correctly categorize the power and send in the right Field Hunter." The woman hit a button on the remote, and the lights turned on, "Now I know that most of you want to be in the field and have a lot of questions about it, so I asked a Hunter here to talk to you."
Kat walks up to the front of the classroom, aware that everyone is watching.
"Thank you for coming," The woman murmurs with a slight bow.
    "My pleasure," Kat replies.
The woman turns and addresses the class again "Please be respectful. She has taken time out of her busy schedule to talk to you. And if that won't keep you quiet remember that she is trained to kill and will feel no guilt in taking out one of you."
The woman steps back, and Kat steps forward, "I'm not here to tell you to stay away from fieldwork or that it is dangerous, you should already know that. What I'm going to tell you is that even before you start training to hone you skills, you have to take a test to see if you qualify to be in fieldwork. Ninety percent of you will take that test only about ten percent will come out alive. Half of that ten percent will come out mentally unstable and will have to be hospitalized, four percent will want to change to a different job, which only leaves about one percent that will qualify. But qualification doesn't mean you are guaranteed to become a field agent. My suggestion is that if you have any doubts at all to change your career."
Kat stops talking, and hands shoot into the air. One by one she takes them on.
Is it true you need a partner? Yes. How many types of Alterations are there? Hundreds. Have you ever fought an F3? No, and I don't want to. Do you get jobs every day? No. Have you ever fought another Hunter? No. Could you fight me? You'd die.
"Alright, that is enough," The woman steps in, "I'm sure our guest has places to be."
Kat bows before leaving. She takes the elevator to the ninth floor, where her room is, and finds Cade waiting for her.
"We have another job," He says.
