Purple Moon
Half Moon 23
Darkness, it is the first thing she is aware of. Then comes the feeling of water circulating around her and her long hair brushing against her skin. She has long since grown used to this, but there is still a part of her that screams for release.
A sound splits the silence interrupting her mussing. The noise is muffled, but it still causes her some irritation. Slowly she opens her eyes and stares beyond the glass of her container.
A woman with short brown hair stares back, horrified. The woman is still, but it is obvious she had been struggling with the men restraining her. After a moment of eye contact, the woman screams and begins struggling again. They drag her off, and the one in the tank closes her eyes.
Kat opens her eyes to a pounding head. She stumbles out of bed and takes a couple pills. Staring at her sink, she waits for the medicine to kick in. She recalls the dream she just had confused by who the girl in the water was. Her head goes from a throb to a dull ache, and she sighs, putting the dream at the back of her mind. She gets dressed and heads downstairs. She finds Adalia and Cade in the cafeteria.
"You're finally up. I know the medic said to rest, but I didn't think you would take it seriously," Cade comments.
Kat sits down and kicks him, "What are you doing here, Adalia?"
Adalia shrugs, "Tiberius and Hidel are getting a check-up. How is your wound doing?"
"It's healing but not as quick as I would like it to," Kat responds.
Adalia rolls her eyes, "Kat, you need to learn not everything is about work."
"And yet work just appears in front of her," Cade points outs.
Jace walks up, "Well, what do we have here."
Kat looks up at him, "what do you want, Jace."
His eyes sparkle, "nothing I was just wondering how it feels to be doing nothing."
"Is that a challenge," Cade asks, "You know you're not going to win."
"What makes you so sure," Jace replies.
Cade looks at Kat measuring her mood, "Survival instinct."
Kat glares at Cade before returning her gaze to Jace, "Even wounded, I would still win."
Jace smiles, "I have some extra time why don't we test that theory."
Kat stands up, "Gladly."
They walk to a training room Cade, and Adalia stand off to one side while the other two face each other.
"Are you sure Kat can win?" Adalia asks.
Cade nods, "I wouldn't be her partner if she couldn't."
Adalia looks at Kat, "Why are you so confident?"
"She hasn't fought anyone since she got the wound. That's two days worth of frustration and unused energy. So don't worry."
