Purple Moon
Half Moon 1
Half Moon, Return of the lost...
Kat tries to forget the day's events and sinks into the bathtub, so the water touches her nose. But the battle with the Alteration replays in her mind and the sound of his words echo in her. She doesn't understand how he could talk and what he said about a Queen made her head hurt.
She hears a knock at her door. She waits for a moment, and when there is another knock, she gets out of the water with a sigh. She wraps a towel around herself and goes to open her front door. There she sees Silias waiting.
    "Hello, Silias." She says
He notices her appearance and smiles slightly, "I'm am sorry to disturb you while you are taking a bath but do you mind if I come it."
She leaves the door open as she backs away from it. Silias follows her in and sits on a chair in the kitchen. When Kat joins him, she is dressed in a tank-top and comfortable pants.
"How can I help you Silias," She asks while offering something to drink.
"I came to see how you were doing after the fight."
She shrugs, "I'm fine. A slight headache and a couple sore muscles but other than that I'm fine."
"I'm glad to hear that. So what did you think of today's...situation."
Kat sighs internally seeing the real reason why Silias came, "I would find it hard to believe if I hadn't fought the thing myself. It puzzles me how an Alteration could get into the City when we have so many precautions against it."
Silias nods, "It puzzles us too the council has commanded me to find out how he got in and told me to tell you that it is your job to figure out who or what the Queen is."
"I understand. Cade and I will set off tomorrow to look for clues."
Silias gets up and Kat follows suit "Good, I will being leaving now and thanks for the drink."
Kat nods but doesn't relax until after he closes the door. Rubbing her throbbing head. Kat climbs into bed a falls asleep.

Kat holds her swords loosely, ready for anything. Adalia stands at her side; her dogs prepared to attack. The Alteration looks at the newcomers curious. Cade starts helping people get out of the room. It turns into a staring contest between the Alteration and the Hunters neither one moving an inch.
"What should we do?" Adalia asks.
"We need to get through the flesh to the heart. It won't be easy; the flesh looks normal, but it's dead."
"At least it's not decomposing," Adalia comments.
"It could be on the inside."
"Oh Kat, don't be mean. When you pulled out your sword, nothing came with it."
"But it wasn't a smooth cut, and it could have mended the skin beneath my sword, or my sword might not have gone all the way through"
"Then how are we going to reach the heart?"
Kat stares into the sunken eyes of the Alteration. Her mind calculating what the next move was. "Follow my lead," She says and runs at the Alteration.
Adalia shakes her head and commands her dogs to follow Kat. The Alteration raises its tray in a defensive position. But Kat knew that it would do that so just as she was about to hit it she swerves and slides her blades along its side. It screeches in pain and turns to face the one who wounded it. The dogs launch themselves at the exposed back of the Alteration. Kat sees her chance and stabs both swords into its chest. The skin resists the blades and pushes as hard as she can while keeping an eye on the Alteration. Then, after a long, tense moment, her swords puncture the heart.
The Alteration doesn't gasp or feebly grab at the swords like Kat expects him to instead he chuckles. Kat stares at him, shocked and a little bewildered. And as the life leaves its eyes, it says, "You may have killed me, but the Queen will send others."
It tries to laugh, but it turns into a coughing fit and dies. Kat pulls out her swords and looks at Adalia. Cade is standing a little behind her in mid-step of walking toward the girls. All of the Civilians are gone, and for a moment, none of them move then Silias walks in and breaks the stillness.
"What is going on here?" He asks
All three Hunters look at him, and Kat says, "I don't know. "

Adalia, Cade, Kat, and Silias are stand on the sun inlaid into the floor of the council chamber.
"This is most disturbing. We have had Alterations attack the City but never before have we had one appear behind the walls." One council member says.
"And you are sure that it spoke?" A different one asks.
Kat nods, "Adalia and Cade were also there."
The council whispers to each other for a moment then one commands, "All of you except Silias may go. We will let you know what we have decided later."
Adalia, Cade, and Kat bow and walk out. Silence fills the room after they leave. Then Silias says, "So what are we going to do."
"We do not know, but we are sure that this is the beginning of something and that whoever this Queen is behind it all needs to die."
Silias nods, "Is there anything else you need?"
    "How is She doing?"
"I have not noticed any changes. The others are wary of her, but she does her job better than any of them. I believe today's incident proves that."
"You may be right but keep an eye on her anyway."
"I understand," Silias bows and walks out.

Purple Moon (CM7)

Purple Moon
Crescent Moon 7
Adalia leads Kat to a fancy restaurant. Made of silver metal and glass, it has an elegant, sophisticated look. Adalia looks around searching for her date and his friend. She finds them sitting at a table towards the back of the dining area.
"Before we go over there, Kat, I want you to know that I've told them that we have jobs that require us to fight the occasional Alteration, but I haven't told them that we are Hunters."
"And you don't me want to tell them."
"Exactly. Oh, they spotted us, come on."
Adalia leads Kat over to the table where the two handsome men sit. She introduces them as David and Chris. The girls sit across from each other so that all four sides of the table are filled. Adalia starts chatting with David, so Kat turns to Chris.
"Where you roped into this too?" He asks.
Kat nods, "She cornered me before I had a chance to look for some dinner. Saying that there was no one else she could ask."
Chris laughs, "Davy did exactly the same thing to me. He promised that his date was going to being a cute girl from her work. I had my doubts, but apparently he was right."
Kat knew that the complement was flattering, but she didn't like it. She felt like these men were as shallow as their words.
"Has she told you about our work?" She asked.
He shrugs, "I haven't heard much about it, but she could have told Davy more."
"What do you do for a living?"
"Nothing interesting. I deliver things to the shop owners mostly."
A server boy comes to get their order saving Kat from replying. The men order expensive dishes she doesn't recognize. Being unfamiliar with the menu, she decides to order the same thing Adalia does. The server leaves and Kat starts a conversation with Adalia and David and successfully gets Chris to also to join in. Kat lets the others do the talking only imputing when she is asked a direct question.
Kat feels her skin crawl and looks around without moving her head. When she can't find the reason for her unease, she twists in her seat to check behind her.
"Wow, that's a nice skin mark." Chris says, "Who did it for you?"
Kat stops her scan of the faces behind her and turns back to the table, annoyed that he stopped her. "No one you would know."
"Why is that?" David asks, curious, "I know most of the good artists, and that one is extremely well done."
"I got it before I came here. I believe the artist is dead."
Kat feels her skin crawl again and looks at Adalia, but she doesn't seem to notice anything. Kat searches again and doesn't pay attention to Daniel's response. She hears someone approach the table and assumes that it's the server bring the food. But when the person talks, she immediately knows that its not the same boy from before.
Kat looks at the new man who has approached their table. He is dressed as a server and is carrying a tray with a clear fiz drink. His body is tilted forward so he can talk to Adalia. His hair is long, and Kat can't see his eyes from where she is sitting. He puts the fiz drink down in front of Adalia and Kat feels her unease escalate. The server walks off, and Kat thinks that she saw him smile a bit. A motion catches her eye, and she looks back to Adalia as she is beginning to raise the glass.
Kat snatches the glass from Adalia's hand, realizing the cause of her unease. Adalia looks at her shocked as do the boys. Kat looking Adalia in the eye sniffs the drink. The smell of bitter flowers greets her.
Kat puts the drink on the table and quietly says, "Death C3 or D1."
Adalia's expression changed in a flash from unbelief to anger. In one smooth motion, she stands up and throws a knife from the table at the server who brought her the drink. He deflects it and turns around his sunken face clearly visible. He laughs a strange coarse sound and reveals a black mouth with small teeth seeming to be randomly placed in it.
People scream, including David and Chris. Some run for the exit others hide under tables.
"Someone call the Hunters," Chris squeals.
"Don't bother," Adalia replies, "They're already here."
Adalia pulls a dagger out of her dress, and Kat unstraps her emergency short sword from her leg.
"Adalia call Cade to tell him to bring my swords. I am going to need them."
"Fine, I'll tell him to bring Tiberius and Hidel. You keep him distracted while I make the call and get the people out of here."
Kat nods and charges the Death Alteration. He raises his arm to block the blow, and her sword embeds itself into his soft bloated flesh with a squish. Kat tries to remove it but abandons it when he moves to hit her over the head with his tray. The tray hits a glass tabletop, shatters it and bends the metal underneath. When he raises the tray again, she kicks a table at him. It hits him in the legs, and while he is unbalanced, she pulls out her sword.
He grumbles angrily and easily shoves the table away from him. Kat quickly looked behind her seeing that Adalia was pushing a couple out the door, but there were more people under the tables, including Chris and David, who were directly behind her.
She hisses as the Alteration stalks towards her and wishes that Cade would hurry up. Then as if conjured up by her thoughts, an arrow shattered the window closest to her, and she hears the sound of her swords cutting through the air. She drops her emergency sword and grabs her swords out of the air.
    "You're late," Kat says.
Cade chuckles, "Well I couldn't exactly refuse with Adalia threatening to stick her mutts on me. Nice dress."
    "Shut up."
Adalia walks to Kat's side her dogs not far behind, "Cade take care of the evacuations I'm going to help Kat."
Kat's mouth twitches as she cuts off her dress just below her knee, "Now I'm ready to get serious."

Crescent Moon 6
Kat after exiting the Council room goes to find dinner. But instead finds Adalia and her dogs waiting for her.
    "Adalia," Kat says in greeting.
"Kat, your finally out. I was beginning to think I would have to wait all day."
"What do you need me for."
"I wanted to see how the job went."
Kat gives her a suspicious look, "What else do you want?"
Adalia laughs, "What makes you think I want something?"
"You never seek me out unless you want something."
"Alright I want you to come with me around the City," Adalia looks at Kat pleadingly, "I know you hate walking around in crowds of the City, but I need your help. I told this guy that I would bring a friend to dinner and you are the only one I can ask. I promise I won't try to set you up with his friend and I'll even make you look nice. All you would have to do is sit there. Please."
Kat rubs her forehead, "Fine, I'll do it."
Adalia smiles, "I promise you won't regret it."
    "I already do."
Adalia laughs, "Come on. It could take me until nightfall to get us both ready."
Adalia heads to the front door with Kat and her dogs trailing behind. Outside people shuffle about generally ignoring each other. Adalia leads them to a market where vendors were selling different items. She walks straight for a man selling fabrics and clothing.
"Ah Boris, it is good to see you again," Adalia says.
"Adalia! My best and favorite customer. What can I do for you?"
"I need a new gown, one of my old ones was recently ripped in a fight and I have a dinner party tonight."
"And you friend?" He looks at Kat and recognition opens in his eyes, "I remember this one. She has a body that works with the best colors and fabrics. Sadly she lets it go to waste."
Adalia nods in agreement, "I was thinking something in a deep purple that shows of her back and something in an orange-red for me."
The man nods and starts draping fabrics across the women. It isn't until the sun starts to sink that the dresses are done. Adalia pays the man and they walk back to Adalia's room. Adalia sat Kat down and starts doing make-up and hair.
"I don't know why you always keep your hair so short. I can never do anything with it."
"It is easier to chop it off than to try and keep it nice."
Adalia sighs and keeps working once she is done she touches up her own make-up and pulls our the dresses. Kat slides into hers and looks at herself in the full length mirror. The dress is a purple that could almost be black; it hugs her curves, but not tightly, until her hips where it falls gently to the floor. It has a halter neckline and no back so the purple crescent moon is visible.
Adalia comes out of the bathroom dressed in a tight fitted dress the color of fire. With peacocks on the skirt. "I almost forgot that you had that on you back."
Kat turns around, "And I never can. Let's get this over with the longer I am in this, the greater chance Cade will see me and I will never live that down"
Adalia laughs, "Only Cade could do something like that."
She opens the door to her room, motions for her dogs to stay while Kat follows her out.
