Purple Moon (CM7)

Purple Moon
Crescent Moon 7
Adalia leads Kat to a fancy restaurant. Made of silver metal and glass, it has an elegant, sophisticated look. Adalia looks around searching for her date and his friend. She finds them sitting at a table towards the back of the dining area.
"Before we go over there, Kat, I want you to know that I've told them that we have jobs that require us to fight the occasional Alteration, but I haven't told them that we are Hunters."
"And you don't me want to tell them."
"Exactly. Oh, they spotted us, come on."
Adalia leads Kat over to the table where the two handsome men sit. She introduces them as David and Chris. The girls sit across from each other so that all four sides of the table are filled. Adalia starts chatting with David, so Kat turns to Chris.
"Where you roped into this too?" He asks.
Kat nods, "She cornered me before I had a chance to look for some dinner. Saying that there was no one else she could ask."
Chris laughs, "Davy did exactly the same thing to me. He promised that his date was going to being a cute girl from her work. I had my doubts, but apparently he was right."
Kat knew that the complement was flattering, but she didn't like it. She felt like these men were as shallow as their words.
"Has she told you about our work?" She asked.
He shrugs, "I haven't heard much about it, but she could have told Davy more."
"What do you do for a living?"
"Nothing interesting. I deliver things to the shop owners mostly."
A server boy comes to get their order saving Kat from replying. The men order expensive dishes she doesn't recognize. Being unfamiliar with the menu, she decides to order the same thing Adalia does. The server leaves and Kat starts a conversation with Adalia and David and successfully gets Chris to also to join in. Kat lets the others do the talking only imputing when she is asked a direct question.
Kat feels her skin crawl and looks around without moving her head. When she can't find the reason for her unease, she twists in her seat to check behind her.
"Wow, that's a nice skin mark." Chris says, "Who did it for you?"
Kat stops her scan of the faces behind her and turns back to the table, annoyed that he stopped her. "No one you would know."
"Why is that?" David asks, curious, "I know most of the good artists, and that one is extremely well done."
"I got it before I came here. I believe the artist is dead."
Kat feels her skin crawl again and looks at Adalia, but she doesn't seem to notice anything. Kat searches again and doesn't pay attention to Daniel's response. She hears someone approach the table and assumes that it's the server bring the food. But when the person talks, she immediately knows that its not the same boy from before.
Kat looks at the new man who has approached their table. He is dressed as a server and is carrying a tray with a clear fiz drink. His body is tilted forward so he can talk to Adalia. His hair is long, and Kat can't see his eyes from where she is sitting. He puts the fiz drink down in front of Adalia and Kat feels her unease escalate. The server walks off, and Kat thinks that she saw him smile a bit. A motion catches her eye, and she looks back to Adalia as she is beginning to raise the glass.
Kat snatches the glass from Adalia's hand, realizing the cause of her unease. Adalia looks at her shocked as do the boys. Kat looking Adalia in the eye sniffs the drink. The smell of bitter flowers greets her.
Kat puts the drink on the table and quietly says, "Death C3 or D1."
Adalia's expression changed in a flash from unbelief to anger. In one smooth motion, she stands up and throws a knife from the table at the server who brought her the drink. He deflects it and turns around his sunken face clearly visible. He laughs a strange coarse sound and reveals a black mouth with small teeth seeming to be randomly placed in it.
People scream, including David and Chris. Some run for the exit others hide under tables.
"Someone call the Hunters," Chris squeals.
"Don't bother," Adalia replies, "They're already here."
Adalia pulls a dagger out of her dress, and Kat unstraps her emergency short sword from her leg.
"Adalia call Cade to tell him to bring my swords. I am going to need them."
"Fine, I'll tell him to bring Tiberius and Hidel. You keep him distracted while I make the call and get the people out of here."
Kat nods and charges the Death Alteration. He raises his arm to block the blow, and her sword embeds itself into his soft bloated flesh with a squish. Kat tries to remove it but abandons it when he moves to hit her over the head with his tray. The tray hits a glass tabletop, shatters it and bends the metal underneath. When he raises the tray again, she kicks a table at him. It hits him in the legs, and while he is unbalanced, she pulls out her sword.
He grumbles angrily and easily shoves the table away from him. Kat quickly looked behind her seeing that Adalia was pushing a couple out the door, but there were more people under the tables, including Chris and David, who were directly behind her.
She hisses as the Alteration stalks towards her and wishes that Cade would hurry up. Then as if conjured up by her thoughts, an arrow shattered the window closest to her, and she hears the sound of her swords cutting through the air. She drops her emergency sword and grabs her swords out of the air.
    "You're late," Kat says.
Cade chuckles, "Well I couldn't exactly refuse with Adalia threatening to stick her mutts on me. Nice dress."
    "Shut up."
Adalia walks to Kat's side her dogs not far behind, "Cade take care of the evacuations I'm going to help Kat."
Kat's mouth twitches as she cuts off her dress just below her knee, "Now I'm ready to get serious."
