Half Moon 29
"Where should we start looking?" Adalia wonders.
Kat looks around the town, the buildings that are still standing are ones that Kat is not familiar with. She assumes some are bigger versions of the houses people live in now, but the other ones she could only guess.
"Any idea what these were used for?" Kat asks.
Cade shrugs.
Adalia points at an odd-shaped building, "I once visited a building like that for a job. From what I researched, before the war people used them to worship."
"Well we don't know what's useful and what's not so we may as well look everywhere," Cade chuckles.
Kat nods, "True, Adalia you go check out that old worship building and the ones surrounding it. I'll search the big building with all the window spaces and Cade you get everything else."
Cade moans, "Why do I get the biggest piece."
"Because it was your idea to search everywhere," Adalia responds.
Cade sighs and Kat glares at him before heading towards the huge building.
All the glass was gone out of the windows, but you could see where it had been. Kat enters the building through one of these window spaces and finds herself in a hallway. The floor and ceiling are crumbling and so faded you can't tell what color they use to be. There isn't anywhere to go but down the hallway. Kat picks a direction and starts walking.
The hallway leads her to a set of stairs going to the second floor. The second floor had more doorways than the first floor, but there was nothing in the rooms beyond the doorways.
She is just about to give up and find her companions when she comes across a room that looks exactly like the rest, but there is a huge hole in the floor that leads into blackness.
Kat's skin crawls, and she feels unexpectedly anxious staring down the hole. Backing out of the room, she marks the door with her blades and turns to the nearest window. She whistles and waves her hands in the air. Once Kat thinks she waved long enough for them to see her, she goes to the first floor and finds Adalia and Cade as they were climbing through a window.
"Did you find anything?" Cade asks.
"Not sure but its not something normal for this place."
Kat leads them to the room with the hole. Ignoring her own feelings, she turns to the others for their opinions.
Cade crouches down and stares into the blackness. Adalia looks around the room.
"Whatever's down, there isn't like the rest of the building. There's no windows," Cade speaks.
"The room is relatively untouched, it wasn't made by something falling," Adalia adds.
Cade picks up a small piece of rubble and tosses it into the hole. After a moment, a sound rings out as it hits the ground.
"It's not a long way down, probably leads to the first floor," Cade calculates.
"So its nothing special," Adalia sighs.
Cade shakes his head, "The darkness bugs me. Do we have anything we can use for a light?"
Adalia pulls out several long skinny tubes, Torches. Cade raises an eyebrow and takes one.
"Sometimes my dogs get into a situation where I have to distract the Alteration," Adalia replies.
Cade shrugs before hitting the torches against the floor, causing them to flare with light. He drops it into the hole and watches it roll a couple feet before he jumps in himself.
